Described by many as Edinburgh’s most influential architectural firm, the designs of Dick Peddie McKay have been constructed in the Edinburgh area since 1845. With the initial partnership of John Dick Peddie and Charles Hood Kinnear the firm established their first commissions and vision for the city. The practice then continued to expand with the addition of further partners. John Ross McKay joined in 1942 and was very influential within the practice, becoming senior partner in 1955 resulting in the practice name as it stands today; Dick Peddie McKay.

 

Recognised for their work during the Victorian age Dick Peddie McKay were the architects for the prestigious Edinburgh Caledonian Railway Station and hotel, Edinburgh College of Art and many buildings on Princes Street, Chalmers Street and Cockburn Street.

With a grounding in the Victorian era Dick Peddie McKay have since been known for many building projects in the area working on both historic buildings to restore original features sympathetically and new build projects to create contemporary spaces. The current practice has a positive philosophy, engaging with each client’s individual brief to achieve excellence and quality in every design.
